Valentine Dance
Valentine Dance Saturday 11th February
Our Social Committee has great pleasure in announcing our 2012 Valentine Dance, to be held on Saturday 11th February, at 6.30 for 7pm.
The evening goes on until late, with entertainment from Sammy Lowrie!
Tickets are £50 per couple, including a bottle of wine, so please put this important date in your diaries for you and your loved one.
Please put you name(s) on the list at the clubhouse, and make sure your payment reaches us by Friday 27th January; as usual for recent events, you can pay through the till at the bar.
I'll be putting out a reminder nearer the time, but please get your booking in quickly for this very popular annual event.
Best regards,
Brian
PS watch this space for news of other forthcoming events - dates for our Night Golf and our usual Spring Dance are being planned as you read this. All of these events have been very popular over the years, so please get your booking in quickly - starting with the Valentine Dance!

Night Golf & Quiz Night 17th February
Night Golf & Quiz Night, February 17th!
PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE OF DATE!
Please get your names in ASAP for this year's Night Golf on the evening of 17th February, starting at 6.30.
This year we also have a quiz night; last year the event was over-subscribed, so this year it will be even more popular.
The limit of 36 players on the original poster has now been extended to 44; with a shotgun start and balls at a premium, this is really the absolute limit to the number of players, so please be quick! There will be a ballot to select teams.
At only £7.50, inlcuding a buffet, it's great value, and as usual you can pay through the bar till.
Last year we had nearly 100 members - both players and spectators (otherwise known as innocent by-drinkers) - in and around the Clubhouse, and it was a great night. Just take a look at the event report below!
So please come along even if you are not playing, for all the fun and games.
Night Golf report
Hello again Night Golfers and other night owls,
The Night Golf event organised by the Social Committee led by David Kirkwood was a great success, with not only 48 keen golfers braving the elements in the dark, but also 50 other club members coming along to enjoy the evening.
Please click here to see some photos of the intrepid competitors.
Proceedings began with a Shotgun start at 6PM, and you can see the teams' starting position in the Draw here. You can see all of the results by clicking here.
Some players, such as the team of John Clougherty, David Halliday, Mick McHugh and Bryan Brown took no chances with the dark, wearing their high visibility gear to aid the search and rescue teams!
Others wore their Christmas tree lights out of season (Lynn McColl) and some, like Mark Ferguson and Malcolm Campbell followed the old adage that if you couldn't be an athlete, you could provide the athletic support.
It has to be said that the weather was pretty adverse - not many of the players would have been playing a normal daytime round, and it's a testament to the unique attraction of the occasion that 48 players turned up to fill all of the slots available for the Shotgun start and played!
After the event, the evening in the clubhouse included food from the wonderful Madeleine; drinks served by our bar staff entering into the spirit of the occasion; results service; the prizegiving; a brain-buster quiz; a nearest the bottle pound coin toss; and TV display of as many embarrassing pictures as we could muster.
Winners of the event (although everyone had such a good time that winning and losing didn't seem the point!) were the Captains' (yes, both of them) team of Christine Morrison, Brian Howat, Stevie Littlejohn and Paul Donnelly, just .2 (yes, 20%) of a stroke ahead of the Past Captains' team Tom Owens, Davie Bryson, Jim O'Brien and Drew Smith.
Walter Dobbin, Davie Miller, Joe Gallaher and Mick Irvine were in third place.
Altogether huge thanks are due to David Kirkwood, Janice Hughes, Mick Irvine, and all Bearsden staff involved, including John Brown and the greens staff for presenting the best night-time course any of us has ever seen(!).
A special thank you to Vice-Captain Mark Ferguson for compering the evening and all of the other contributions he has made in the background;
and don't forget those branded "Famous Night Golf" whisky bottles organised by George Fotheringham, seen here modelled by champion coin tosser Bill Pollock (you don't often see those words together) and his team of Christine Siebelt, Colin MacPherson and Gordon Gibson.
Best regards,
Brian
