Winter Leagues 2010/11

At long last the draw for the winter League 2011 has been made. The reason for the delay was partly down to the inclement weather and also being one team short of making equal sections. I was hoping that another team would enter their names onto the entry sheet, but I’ve had to bite the bullet and create a section with just 4 teams. This was done on Sunday afternoon on the 16th with all the team names placed in a pint glass and Past Captain Bob Semple was asked to withdraw four teams only. The top two teams from each section will qualify for the knock-out stages.

Although the start has been delayed, I would expect there is still plenty time for all the sectional games to be played before the playing season commences. It is worth remembering that the whole reason for winter golf is to bring some much welcome revenue to the Bar and the Catering.

The rules have been simplified and playing times non-restricted to weekends; any member can contact any other to arrange games. It's a 4-ball format with lowest man off zero and 3/8ths difference and if the weather turns bad again, at least turn up at the clubhouse and have a drink with your opponents and award yourselves a point each for a well-earned draw.

The sections are as follows:

Section 1 – J Gilles/R Francis – S Lowrie/D Queen – P Donnelly/J Austin – M O’Neill/M Rocks

Section 2 – M Taylor/P McLean – J Forsyth/K Forrest – A Ahmed/R Sondh – B Pollock/J Ferguson – P McMillan/S Connolly

Section 3 - M Ferguson/S Cairns – A Culverwell/H Nicol – C McVicar/C Cumming – J MacLean/A Gibson – J Killen/J McIlroy

Section 4 – I Thayne/I Brown (D) – D Kirkwood/ Douglas Mcbride – J Brown/ David Mcbride – C McPherson/J Cochrane – E McCullagh/ B Howat

I realise that in the past there have been instances of teams who have qualified because they didn’t play another team, so I will be keeping an eye on any team who manipulate games to suit their own agenda.

A league table will be available in the Men’s Locker Room to enter your points.

So get cold, get wet, get frustrated, but get playing.
