Ewen Ferguson at the 2010/11 DGU awards
Bearsden's Ewen Ferguson took major awards at the Dunbartonshire Golf Union prize-giving dinner recently for his outstanding performances last season in DGU competitions, as well as recognition of his overall performances locally, regionally and nationally.
Ewen, seen here with his good friend Cameron Farrell, collected the Boys' Matchplay Champion's Trophy, and possible even more impressively took the Young Player of the Year award together with the Bob Jenkins Memorial Trophy.
Proud dads Mark Ferguson and Robert Farrell proudly looked on as Cameron also collected his awards as the Boys' Medal Play Champion and for the Boys' Order of Merit.
Here they are all showing their deserved pride in their performances.
Bearsden's Gavin Gough was also a DGU winner, with the Spring Meeting Handicap Medal.
Richard Docherty wins the Dunbartonshire Championship
Club champion Richard Docherty became the Dumbartonshire Match-Play Champion tonight at Windyhill beating Richard Graham of Hayston Golf Club by 3 and 2 in the final.
The final was originally scheduled for last August but had to be postponed because of bad weather and the subsequent return of the finalists to their universities in the United States.
In a keenly contested match, Richard won the first two holes with birdies and was always in command against his highly rated opponent.
Well done Richard on securing your most important win to date.
Bearsden's Junior team at the DGU Team Final

At the end of a very exciting home match against Windyhill, towards the end of last season, our Junior Team managed to win 4-2 to get through to the Final of the Dumbartonshire Junior Team Championships.
The final itself was postponed owing to bad weather, and was played on 23rd May at 8.30AM.

Pictured here are the team and team management (top) and some individual members of our team in their new team kit, kindly sponsored by Nexus Packaging and Merkland Tank. In the match, Ewen Ferguson and Cameron Kirkwood (both at left) won their singles matches, and Kane Forrester / Bryan Brown halved their foursome match, unlucky not to win it on the 18th.
So after a very spirited performance, our team narrowly lost 2½ - 3½ to Douglas Park.

Richard Docherty flying the flag for Bearsden
Richard Docherty is one of the stars of our Club.
The current Club Champion, winner of the Scott Hardie Trophy and the Johnstone Cup last year,
Richard attends University at Linden Wood College in St Louis, Missouri, USA, studying for his Sports Management degree course.
Richard was also a finalist - the final yet to be played as both finalists had to fly back to the US for their studies before a delayed final could be played - in the DGU County Championship. Hopefully we will have the chance to support him when it is played this year.
Richard has already won three competitions in the USA. Having only just turned eighteen, and of course only recently graduated from being a Club Junior, we can only expect he will get better and better! Well done, Richard.
Helen Faulds and Lynn McColl keep Bearsden in the news
Our Club Champion, Helen Faulds has continued to do well on the Scottish scene.
In the Dunbartonshire and Argyll County Championships she was a semi-finalist and won the West Division Veterans' Championship in June and reached the quarter-finals in the Senior Women's Championship.
She also played for the Scottish Vets team against England at Bath when Scotland retained the Miller Stirling Salver. She came second in the Scottish Foursomes and won the scratch prize. She has been appointed Scottish Vets Vice-Captain. Helen has won three club championships this season at Elie and Douglas Park as well as at Bearsden.
Lynn McColl, the runner-up in the Club Championship, has also had a very successful year. She equalled the course record, scoring a gross 74. Also Lynn won the 1st Silver and Coronation Medal in the County.
County and national recognition for BGC Juniors
Three of our successful Junior squad have been recognised at National and County level over the last year.
Ewen Ferguson, winner of the Club Junior Championship last year has won a place in the SGU Academy which offers him exposure to playing and training help to bring his game on even faster!
And Ewen, together with Cameron Kirkwood and Bradley Kelly, also prominent in Junior competitions in recent years at BGC, are now part of the Dunbartonshire Golf Union squad.
Our Junior membership as a whole have been an important and thriving part of the Bearsden Golf Club scene for some years now, for example winning promotion in 2008 in the McCarry League.
It is great encouragement for us all to see this recognition for our Juniors in the wider scene of golf in Scotland.

Mark Ferguson's DGU championships
Mark Ferguson has won innumerable Club Championships and tournaments over recent years, and is also a high achiever further afield.
Here we see him, along with his sons, caddie for the day Ewen, and Lewis after winning the DGU Championship in 2006.
Mark was also runner-up in 2008 in the DGU Champion of Champions final. It looks like the Ferguson name will be on trophies for some time to come.
Our team repeat their once in 100 years 2008 success - in 2009!
Having waited over a hundred years to follow the Club's first success in the County Team Championship, in winning the 2008 event the Club retained the trophy last Sunday at Cardross.
